| by Charles Roberts

At least nine people were killed on Sunday when gunfire erupted following a brawl between rival biker gangs in Waco, Texas.

Police say a fight began at Twin Peaks restaurant, and the incident eventually led to additional confrontations in the parking lot. As soon as the brawl spilled outside the confines of the eatery, the weapons came out.

"As that fight progressed, it progressed very rapidly from hands and feet as weapons to chains,” Waco Police Sgt. Patrick Swanton said at a news conference.

Customers and employees inside Twin Peaks reportedly had to take cover in the freezer. Despite this, police sources insist that restaurant management has not been particularly cooperative in the past when it comes to dealing with gangs.

"We have attempted to work with the local management of Twin Peaks to get that cut back to no avail," he said. "They have not been of much assistance to us."

A total of 18 people were ultimately taken to the hospital and more than 100 weapons were reportedly recovered.

The New York Daily News reports that the gangs involved were the Bandidos, Cossacks and Scimitars, but that has yet to be confirmed.
