A Kansas man will stand trial for first-degree murder and aggravated battery after police say he secretly fed his pregnant girlfriend an abortion pill.
A judge ruled on Friday that Scott Bollig, 30, will stand trial for the January murder of Naomi Abbott’s unborn child.
Bollig confessed to crushing up an abortion pill and mixing it into pancakes he served to Abbott, who was 8 weeks pregnant.
Abbott, 36, miscarried on Jan. 31 and doctors found traces of the abortifacient drug mifepristone in her blood.
Hays pathologist Dr. Lyle Noordhoek testified that the fetus had been developing normally, “which led me to believe some sort of process was interfering with the loss to oxygenation” to the placenta. Noordhoek said the fetal death was consistent with taking mifespristone.
Bollig’s defense attorney has argued that his client’s confession was improperly obtained and should be inadmissible in court.
Bollig is expected to enter a plea on September 9.
