Kansas City Police Release Video of Cop Killing Firefighter

Authorities have released a cell phone video of a fight between an off-duty Kansas City police officer, Donald Hubbard, and a newly-married firefighter, Anthony Bruno, from Dec. 1, 2013.

The incident began as an altercation between Bruno and a cab driver over a $6 fare following Bruno’s wedding reception.

The bride, Stephanie Bruno, told police the cab driver threw money in her face and made a sexual slur. That's when her husband began punching the cabbie, noted The Los Angeles Times.

Hubbard, who was wearing his police uniform, but working off-duty as a security guard for a nearby hotel, responded and chased Bruno for blocks.

According to the Kansas City Star, the video (below) shows Hubbard holding Bruno down and trying to handcuff him.

At one point, Bruno is able to wrestle on top of Hubbard and starts punching him.

The man shooting the video on his cellphone yells, “Hey, don’t fight the cop! Don’t fight the cop!”

Suddenly, the cell phone points away as a gunshot is heard.

“He was on top of me and I was in an extremely vulnerable position, and I was exhausted from the struggle with the suspect,” Hubbard told police at the time.

“I don’t know how many times he struck me, but I started to black out and saw lines across my eyes,” said Hubbard. “He continued to strike me and I started to lose consciousness, and I believed the suspect was not going to stop hitting me until he killed me. I feared for my life and I drew my weapon, fired two shots center mass.”

Bruno died at a local hospital, while Hubbard was recently cleared of any wrongdoing by a grand jury.
