Jeanie Daniels Arrested for Painting Nails on Airline Flight
Burbank, California resident Jeanie Daniels (pictured, left) was arrested and detained for 10 hours for painting her nails on a Southwest flight headed to Houston, Texas, on Feb. 26.
Daniels, who was flying to see her boyfriend Jimmy Hauser, asked passengers on both sides of the aisle if they would mind her painting her nails; they all obliged her request.
Daniels told CBS2: “I thought it was all going well until the attendant came over and was very upset I was painting my nails, saying it was offending everyone around me."
Daniels went into the bathroom to finish and a second angry flight attendant was waiting for her: “She said, ‘Weren’t you just told not to paint your nails?’ Actually, I wasn’t. I was just told it was offending people around me so I did the right thing and went to an enclosed area."
The passenger went back to her seat and was confronted by the first flight attendant. Daniels recalled: “She said, ‘You just blatantly didn’t listen to my rules,’ and she just kept carrying it on and on. She was getting so loud when I was sitting in my seat. I was like, just stop, and I was loud when I said ‘Stop bitching at me' because she wouldn’t end the conversation."
Daniels was later arrested at Hobby Airport in Houston.
A Houston Police spokesman said police officers interviewed the flight attendants and a witness, then called the District Attorney’s Office to try to charge Daniels with “abusive profane language.”
The charge was later dismissed by a judge. After more than 10 hours in jail, Daniels was released.
In response, Southwest Airlines released this statement: “The Customer in question was taken into custody upon arrival in Houston for behavior she displayed while onboard a flight from LAS – HOU on Feb 26th. The airport police became involved because of the passenger’s behavior and a verbal altercation with a Southwest Airlines crew member. Southwest Airlines is responsible for the safety of all of our passengers and employees.”

@James Smith "It's
@James Smith
"It's significant to me the flight attendant said 'my rules'."
We have no idea what the flight attendant said. All we know is what Daniels says the flight attendant said. And of course, in Daniels' version of the story, Daniels is an angel. But apparently there was at least one witness telling a different story.
She went into the restroom to finish her nails? How considerate! If the polish was stinking up the entire cabin, imagine what it did to that ventless cubbyhole. Hate to be the guy in line behind her.
Wonder when we'll ever see an uniased report on OV. Case in point: the headline of this story not withstanding, Daniels was NOT arrested "for painting her nails". She was arrested for being loud and abusive.
"Totally exonerated?" According to whom? Beside Daniels, that is.
You are as obviously biased
You are as obviously biased as you accuse me of being. The fact is, you are as ignorant as you claim other to be.
I have been on aircraft where women were painting their nails and it does not "Stink up the entire cabin". Your opinion, and that's all it is, is as arrogant and ignorant as any I have seen.
Yes, she must have been exonerated even from the "abusive language. Otherwise, she would have been arrested. But those are facts and facts do not seem to interest you.
Woops, did I hit a raw nerve?
Woops, did I hit a raw nerve? Or do you just insult people on general principle?
"I have been on aircraft where women were painting their nails and it does not 'Stink up the entire cabin'."
You'll have to take that up with Jeanie Daniels. That's what SHE said happened:
"She [Daniels] told the TV station the fight began when the flight attendant asked her to stop painting her nails on the flight after other passengers complained of the smell." But hey -- YOU'VE been on flights with women painting their nails, so I guess Daniels must've just been making stuff up when she said that.
"Otherwise, she would have been arrested."
Funny. I thought she WAS arrested.
She was NOT arrested. She
She was NOT arrested. She was detained. An over-ambitious prosecutor tried to bring charges against her but that failed, too. Perhaps from a lack of facts? But lack of facts doesn't seem to bother you, does it?
What you choose to consider insults are actually simple statements of observed facts. But again, facts mean nothing to you, do they?
"She was NOT arrested. She
"She was NOT arrested. She was detained."
LOL. She was handcuffed, tossed into a police car, hauled off to a police station and thrown behind bars.
The article we're commenting on says she was arrested. The articles I linked to says she was arrested. Southwest Airlines says she was arrested ("taken into custody"). Oh, and the US Supreme Court says she was arrested:
"Held: Kaupp was arrested within the meaning of the Fourth Amendment before the detectives began to question him. A seizure of the person within the meaning of the Fourth and Fourteenth Amendments occurs when, 'taking into account all of the circumstances surrounding the encounter, the police conduct would "have communicated to a reasonable person that he was not at liberty to ignore the police presence and go about his business."'" (Kaupp v Texas - http://supreme.justia.com/cases/federal/us/538/626/)
This explains the difference between "arrested" and "detained":
"a police officer may detain you ... without arresting you. The officer may not, however, remove you from the immediate vicinity without making an arrest unless you voluntarily accompany the officer to some other location.
"you are arrested whenever a law enforcement officer takes you into custody or otherwise deprives you of your freedom of movement in any significant way. In fact, you may be under arrest even though no one has actually used the word 'arrest' or any comparable word. The fact that you have been deprived of your freedom of movement in some significant manner may amount legally to an arrest.(http://www.ctnetworks.com/Attorneys/arrested.htm)
Personally, I'd have thought handcuffs and ten hours in a jail cell would have constituted "significant deprivation of freedom of movement", but Attorney James Smith says she was simply "detained", so I guess all the Supreme Court Justices were just smoking something.
"facts mean nothing to you, do they"
What means nothing to me is your assertions, which I've now demonstrated in error on two points: first, her nail polish, according to Daniels herself, WAS stinking up the cabin, your assertions to the contrary notwithstanding. Second, she was in fact arrested, not simply detained.
So far, all the facts are on my side. You got nothin' except insult and ad hominem.
Obviously, you have never
Obviously, you have never been arrested. You are simply an arrogant, ignorant person with opinions that suit your own agenda.
I despise ignorance and willful stupidity. Yes, this does mean you.
What you consider insults are only statements of observed facts. If you don't like them, too bad for you.
{CHORTLE} James, James, James
{CHORTLE} James, James, James -- giving up so easily?
"Obviously, you have never been arrested."
Nope, never. I'm a law-abiding citizen.
Jeanie Daniels, on the other hand, WAS arrested. If that bothers you, you'll have to take it up with the news media, 'cause, ya know what?, every article I've read says she was arrested. Look -- right up there:
"Burbank, California resident Jeanie Daniels (pictured, left) was arrested."
"I despise ignorance and willful stupidity."
{SMILE} I cite news reports, a Supreme Court decision, and an article written by an attorney. You in return cite -- hmm, let me look -- absolutely nothing. Not a shred of evidence or authority to support your assertions.
Everything I cited was easily discoverable in five or ten minutes through Google. You couldn't be bothered to do that much. I'm more than happy to let others here judge which of us is willfullly ignorant.
You know, you remind me of a fellow I used to work with: intelligent, but he lacked a sense of humor, had difficulty with long complex phraseology, and struggled with social interactions, often speaking too loudly or inappropriately and lashing out at those around him in frustration at his own failures.
He had Asperger's.
You remind me of every
You remind me of every deliberately ignorant asshole that believes anything the read in the media because it agrees with their own delusions.
{GUFFAW!} And we come full
{GUFFAW!}
And we come full circle! Remember, folks. This little conversation started with *me* cautioning *James* not to believe everything he reads in the media:
JAMES: "It's significant to me the flight attendant said "my rules"."
ME: "We have no idea what the flight attendant said. All we know is what Daniels says the flight attendant said."
Way back then, it was James the Credulous lashing out at Southwest Airlines based only on what he read in a media report. Yes, James. Please DO remember you can't believe everything you read in the media.
Golly, I couldn't have scripted this any better myself. James, you've been a barrel of laughs. Thank you!
{CHUCKLE}
Yes, and you're a fucking
Yes, and you're a fucking moron. Kiss my ass, you stupid piece of shit.
abusive profane language?
abusive profane language? That's simply ridiculous. I'd hate to see how clinical their dirty bed talk would be then...
Sounds to me like the flying
Sounds to me like the flying coke machine needed a personal lesson in manners. A good punch to the mouth would have served the stewardess bitch right.
With the TSA morons standing behind them the cretins in the air think they are gods too.
Those that can't or won't defend themselves can only be slaves.
Southwest used to be a good
Southwest used to be a good airline to fly. It's significant to me the flight attendant said "my rules". Not FAA rules, not even the TSA rules.
Then after the passenger was totally exonerated, Southwest didn't even have the class to apologize, much less offer compensation.
I'll never fly Southwest again.
Jesus Christ. She's an adult
Jesus Christ. She's an adult woman she can use whatever language she chooses after being intentional provoked by a dimwitted airline hag. We aren't children so don't scold us as if we are. Painting nails, oh boy, what next applying mascara?
