Horrible Secret Uncovered After Man Kills Girlfriend

| by Sarah Zimmerman

Police discovered that the man responsible for the homicide of a 21-year-old woman from Las Vegas is also a registered sex offender.

Robert Roginsky, 38, was arrested on charges of murder after his girlfriend Laura Guden was found strangled to death in their shared apartment on March 9. Concerned neighbors called the police after hearing a woman screaming shortly before 9 p.m. that night, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. By the time authorities arrived, Guden was unresponsive; she was eventually pronounced dead at the scene.

Guden had broken fingernails and other defensive wounds on her hands, suggesting that she fought back during the attack. During questioning, Roginsky said that Guden was actually raped and murdered by a drug dealer named David, maintaining that David and another man kidnapped Roginsky and took him to an undisclosed location during the murder.

However, neighbors who had been home throughout the day said that Roginsky's car never left the complex and that they did not see anybody enter or leave the couple's apartment unit. Detectives also noticed scratches on Roginsky's forearms, which led them to believe that he had recently been involved in a physical altercation.

The Daily Mail reports that Roginsky is a Level 2 sex offender who served jail time in 2008 for having a sexual relationship with an 11-year-old. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison, but was released after four years for good behavior.

According to the Nevada Department of Public Safety, a Level 2 sex offender is considered to be a "probable threat" to public safety. Level 2 sex offenders are required by law to notify law enforcement, schools, and other community organizations of their status.

Guden's sister told Las Vegas Now that family members were not aware that Roginsky was a convicted sex offender. She said she was unaware if Guden herself knew that information.

Neighbors in the couple's apartment unit said they also weren't informed.

"I had no idea that he was a registered sex offender," said neighbor Desmond Castro. "Something like that is very vital I think for everyone to be aware of."

Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson said that Roginsky's previous crimes will most likely have an effect on his upcoming trial for the Guden murder.

"A person's criminal history is going to come back to haunt them in most situations because they are going to be treated generally speaking, more harshly if they have a criminal record," said Wolfson.

Roginsky is currently being held at the Clark County Detention Center without bail. It is unclear when he will make his first court appearance.
