A Texas woman faces charges after allegedly letting six children ride on top of a moving vehicle because they were wet from a visit to the pool.
Kisha Young, 38, was charged with intoxication assault after four kids between ages 8 and 14 fell off the trunk and hood of the car as she drove them home from a neighborhood pool Tuesday evening in Crowley, Texas. The other two children were unharmed and another mom was a passenger in the car.
Young did not want the kids to ride inside of her car because their bathing suits were wet from swimming, Fox4KC reports.
When Young made a sharp turn, the children slid off and were catapulted to the ground.
Witnesses say Young did not notice what had happened until she got to the end of the block. She then turned around and drove back to help, NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth reports.
Four of the children were hurt; three suffered minor injuries and have been released. But a 12-year-old daughter of the other mom in the passenger seat, who may also face charges, was flown by air ambulance to a local hospital to be treated for a serious head injury.
“There was one laying on the floor…there was a girl sitting next to her that was getting checked out; she had blood on her shirt and stuff,” witness Holly Powell told MyFoxDFW.com. “And then there was two kids that had road burns that were walking up and down the street.”
Police say Young called 911, and was arrested after failing a field sobriety test.
She was later charged with two other felonies, injury to child and driving while intoxicated with a child under the age of 15, The Smoking Gun notes. Child Protective Services was also called.
Young is currently being held on $110,000 bail at the Crowley Jail.
