Police arrested an Indiana woman after she allegedly left her two special needs children alone at home for nine hours.

Kiara Officer, 23, was arrested for child neglect after Indianapolis police officials arrived at her home at 2:40 a.m. for a child welfare check.

Upon arriving, a 5-year-old girl informed them that she was home alone with her 2-year-old brother.

She let the officers into the home where they discovered a smell of “burnt marijuana” as well as a variety of drug paraphernalia, according to a probably cause report.

The home was also reportedly filthy with trash and food bags as well as mold on the walls. Bed bugs infested the entryway and the children had no access to food. The boy was also covered in his own urine.

The girl informed officers that the mother left home to go out and party with her friends.

Police eventually found the mom at a nearby Costco where she claimed she left the children with a babysitter named “Cocoa.” According to the 5-year-old, though, nobody came to care for them.

Child Protective Services has since been contacted and the children’s grandmother has been given custody of the kids.

The mother has been arrested on two counts of felony neglect of a dependent.
