A famous Indian model was shooting a television show on Sunday when a member of the audience randomly slapped her, leaving her visibly shaken.

Gauahar Khan is host of a reality show singing competition in India, and on Sunday night, while filming the show’s finale, a member of the audience suddenly approached her and slapped her in the face for wearing clothes that were, in his opinion, too revealing.

The suspect, identified as 24-year-old Mohammed Akil Malik, was detained by security on the set before police were called to the scene.

“Malik had been coming over to the show, as a member of the audience, for the past two to three days. He had been observing Khan,” revealed a police official in a statement. “Around 8pm on Sunday, while the shoot was on, Malik suddenly got up and went on the stage. He tried to touch Khan who was taken aback and resisted. Malik then slapped her. He asked her how she could wear skimpy outfits and dance to cheap songs despite being a Muslim.”

Police say that Malik is now in custody and will likely face molestation and assault charges.

“We took Malik into custody immediately,” the police official said. “Khan said she would come to the police station after wrapping up the shoot. Malik would be produced before a magistrate court on Monday.”

Police are now investigating Malik’s background ahead of his scheduled court appearance on Monday, and Khan’s condition following the incident doesn’t appear to be serious.
