Homeless Man Breaks Into Funeral Home, Has Sex With Body

| by Sean Kelly

A homeless man in Columbus, Georgia, was arrested and charged with necrophilia after he broke into a funeral home and had sex with a corpse.

Domonique Smith, 26, was arrested on Monday and initially charged with stealing a bike from the funeral home. During an investigation, authorities said they found evidence to suggest that Smith had sex with a female corpse while he was inside the building.

“The investigation led us to believe he had a sexual act with the woman’s body,” Capt. Gordon Griswould said. Griswould told reporters that he couldn’t recall the last time there was a necrophilia charge in the Columbus area. “This is extremely rare,” he said.

Police estimate that the crime took place sometime between 7 p.m. on Sunday and 7 a.m. on Monday.

“We hold our families dear,” Funeral Director Cedric Hill said. “We look for the best protection and security for the families we have served in this community for 65 years.”

Griswould reportedly declined to comment on the specific sexual act that occurred at the home, but police reportedly have video evidence that shows Smith inside the building during the time he was believed to have been there.

If convicted, Smith faces up to 10 years in prison for the necrophilia charge.
