Jennalin Garcia-Calle, a 28-year-old high school math teacher at Plainfield High School in Elizabeth, New Jersey, has been arrested for allegedly having sex with a 16-year-old student in her classroom during school hours.
Garcia-Calle was arrested this week at the Recovery Institute of South Florida in Davie, Florida. She fled New Jersey to the drug and psychiatric treatment center when the relationship was discovered by authorities, reports MyCentralJersey.com.
Garcia-Calle was charged with second-degree sexual assault and fourth-degree child abuse. She is being held on $200,000 bail in Florida, awaiting extradition to New Jersey.
Garcia-Calle and the student allegedly had sex on at least three occasions during their relationship, which is said to have started in December 2012.
The police investigation started when the student informed a family member about his relationship with Garcia-Calle and that family member called the police.
Union County Prosecutor Theodore J. Romankow told MyCentralJersey.com: "What made this particularly...unusual is that they actually had sex in school, in her classroom when classes were in session. Evidently they blocked the windows and locked the door."
