A veteran Florida police officer arrested over the weekend for drug possession is claiming he was set up after falling in love with a woman who was connected to a pimp.
At the time of his arrest, Tomas Munoz, 41, was allegedly in possession of crack cocaine and crack pipes, which were uncovered by police in his hotel room, according to a report of the incident published by CBS4.
Munoz is a 15-year veteran of the Hialeah Police Department.
Per the report, Miami officers began conducting surveillance on Munoz based on information he was purchasing crack. After following Munoz and an unidentified woman to a local motel, police knocked on the door and subsequently uncovered the drugs once they were allowed inside.

Police say they found crack rocks, a crack pipe, and a scouring pad.
“It’s ok Hilda,” Munoz reportedly told the woman he was with during the time of his arrest. “It’s ok. Things happen for a reason.”
The Hialeah officer is facing a felony count of possession of cocaine, along with a misdemeanor charge for possession of drug paraphernalia.
Munoz was released from the Miami-Dade jail Sunday after posting $5,000 bond.

“This all came about from a love story. I met a girl. She happens to have a pimp. And we fell in love and he doesn’t let her be free. I mean this came about because he set this whole thing up,” Munoz said.
Munoz also identified his lover’s pimp before ending his talk with reporters on Sunday afternoon.
“I’m saying this whole thing came about from that so let me give you his name, Darin James Febus,” he said.
CBS4 reported they had reached Febus by telephone but before they could speak, Febus hung up.
Febus’ rap sheet includes a 2012 arrest for grand theft and possession of cannabis. He was also charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Despite the pending charges against him, Munoz claims he isn’t upset over the incident.
Police say Munoz will be assigned to at-home status and relieved of all police duties and powers pending the outcome of the investigation.
Prior to his arrest, Munoz was not only under an Internal Affairs Investigation but he was also assigned to administrative desk duties with no police authority.
