Gun Owners of America director Larry Pratt recently got caught trying to rewrite the Bible on his "Gun Owners News Hour" radio show.
This week, Pratt was apparently trying to rewrite the facts of the tragic shooting in Tucson, Arizona in 2011, which killed six people and left Rep. Gabrielle Giffords with a serious brain injury.
Pratt appeared on "The Austin Hill Show" this week and claimed that shooter Jared Loughner "didn’t find any resistance and he was able to kill a number of people there" (audio below).
However, in reality, there was a man with a gun, Joe Zamudio, nearby, who almost shot another man who had taken Loughner's gun away, reported NBC News.
Also, there was Bill Badger, an unarmed 74-year-old retired Army Colonel, who helped subdue Loughner with the help of other unarmed bystanders. Badger was so concerned about stopping Loughner that he didn't realize that he had been shot according to USA Today.
For reasons unknown, Pratt never mentions that heroic "resistance," but rather rewrote the narrative to suit his talking points.
"Only one out of the mass murders in the last 20 years have been carried out in gun-free zones. And the one, by the way, that was an exception, I’m sorry Democrats that are listening, but it was a Democrat town hall meeting of a Democrat representative in Tucson, Arizona," said Pratt, notes RightWingWatch.org.
"And, you know, that’s kind of what Democrats are like, they don’t necessarily, most of them, believe in carrying guns. And so when this dirtbag attacked a town hall meeting, he didn’t find any resistance and he was able to kill a number of people there."
