Georgia Officer Investigated For Death Of Girlfriend In His Home

| by Will Hagle

A Georgia police officer is currently under investigation for the shooting of his girlfriend that occurred “while they were intimate” in bed.

The officer, 21-year-old Dwight Buchanan, works as a sheriff’s deputy in Walton County. His girlfriend, 20-year-old Nikki Guined, is believed to have shot herself in the head using his weapon. The shooting allegedly occurred after the two had endured a night of drinking and a fight, but also took place after they had reconciled and had gone to bed in their home.

The official report, according to the New York Daily News, reads as follows, “Nikki asked Dwight for his pistol. Dwight was reluctant to do so, but gave Nikki his unloaded pistol. Nikki repeatedly asked Dwight, ‘Don’t you trust me?’ She then asked him to load the pistol. Dwight took the pistol from Nikki, loaded it with a magazine and chambered a round. He then removed the magazine and gave it back to Nikki. She then placed the muzzle of the gun under her right jaw and pulled the trigger.”

Guined died as a result of the self-inflicted gun wound.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is leading the investigation into Guined’s death. Buchanan has been placed on paid leave for the remainder of the investigation. “I want to be as transparent as possible so that there are no questions,” said Walton County Sheriff Joe Chapman, “We don’t want to appear that we’re hiding anything."
