George Zimmerman, the man known for fatally shooting teenager Trayvon Martin and being acquitted after using the “Stand Your Ground” defense, has reportedly been shot following an incident in Florida.

Reports say Zimmerman sustained a minor injury after being shot during an altercation with another man in Lake Mary at around 12:45 p.m. on May 11. It’s not clear where Zimmerman was hit or what sparked the shooting, but Lake Mary Police Chief Steve Bracknell confirmed that Zimmerman was one of two men involved, WESH reports. Bracknell noted that the altercation may have been the result of an "ongoing dispute" between Zimmerman and the other man.

According to an eye witness, Zimmerman walked to the ambulance, and a bullet hole was in the passenger window of Zimmerman's car.

In 2012, Zimmerman fatally shot unarmed teenager Martin as he walked through his neighborhood. That shooting sparked international outrage, but ultimately, Zimmerman was acquitted in 2013 of all charges against him.

Since being acquitted, Zimmerman has been no stranger to the headlines. He was accused of assault in January by his girlfriend, but no charges were filed. In November 2013, he was arrested on domestic violence after his girlfriend called police. Charges were never filed in that case, either.

This story is still developing.
