Foster Mother Arrested For Leaving Child In Hot Car

| by Will Hagle

In the latest of a string of incidents involving parents leaving children in hot cars, a Florida foster mother reportedly left her 15-month-old son in a Jeep while she went grocery shopping.

The woman, 53-year-old Monique Rivers Williams, was arrested after allegedly leaving the car off and the windows closed as she shopped in the Publix for 20 minutes. Williams was reported to the police by an employee who noticed the child sitting in the car.

An Apopka police spokesman claimed that the child was found to be healthy.

“The child was removed through an unlocked door and examined by paramedics. The child’s hair was wet from sweat and he was warm to the touch, but otherwise found to be in good health,” Apopka police said, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

Williams denied leaving her child in the car for any potentially dangerous amount of time.

“I ran in and out to get his milk. That’s all,” Williams said.

Williams also claimed that the windows were rolled up because the air conditioning had just been turned off and it was raining outside. She also claimed that she left her son in the car because he had pink eye.

The boy was removed from Williams’ care and placed back in custody of the Department of Children and Families, according to WKMG Orlando.
