A former Florida charter school teacher pleaded guilty Wednesday to having sex with a 15-year-old student three years ago.

Space Coast Daily reports 34-year-old Irene Kahn admitted to initiating the relationship with the student while she was a science teacher at Imagine Charter School in West Melbourne.

Investigators claimed Kahn contacted the student using a number he had written on a board in class in order to attract girls.

The relationship is believed to have stared sometime in 2011 and continued into 2012.

“She got into a sexual relationship with him over several months, and we got information on that, and we brought the victim in and questioned him,” West Melbourne police spokesman Steve Wilkinson told WESH News.

Wilkinson said at the time of Khan’s arrest that the teacher and student would meet and have sex in nearby hotels and motels as well as in Khan’s car and at her apartment.

The then-married mother of two was charged in 2012 and faced multiple counts including enticing the victim to engage in sexual activity, committing sexual battery while in authority as an agent of the government, lewd or lascivious battery by engaging in sexual activity, and lewd or lascivious molestation.

Imagine Charter School fired Khan around the same time of the investigation, reportedly for matters unrelated to the relationship with the student. Prosecutors said her firing was for inappropriate behavior at the school including showing her tattoos to her students.

Brevard County Judge James Earp sentenced Khan Wednesday to two years of community control to be followed by 10 years of probation. She is also required to register as a sex offender.

Among the terms of her probation listed by the judge, Khan is prohibited from wearing costumes intended to to appeal to children, such as Santa costumes.

If she violates the conditions of her probation she could face up to 30 years in prison, Earp said.
