Florida Woman Sentenced To Life For Killing Neighbor, Cooking His Body In The Oven

A Florida woman has been sentenced to life in prison for killing her neighbor and then proceeding to cook him in an oven and on a stove.

Angela Stoldt, 42, was convicted for the killing of James Sheaffer, 36, a man who lived across the street from her. The two had, according to Stoldt, driven to a cemetery together, where she stabbed him in the eye with an ice pick and then strangled him to death. Stoldt claims that she killed Sheaffer in self-defense after he attacked her while they were in sitting in her parked car at the cemetery.

After killing Sheaffer, Stoldt reportedly began to panic at the thought of being arrested and losing her family, so she drove Sheaffer’s body back to her house and used a hacksaw to dismember it before attempting to cremate the man by “putting several body parts in an oven and in pots on the stove,” according to the Huffington Post. After the failed attempt at cremation, Stoldt put the dismembered body parts in trash bags and enlisted the assistance of her two children in getting rid of it, telling them that she had hit a deer and needed help disposing of it.

According to the Daytona Beach News-Journal, Stoldt and Sheaffer had a platonic relationship, based around the agreement that she would be the payee on his social security benefits. Authorities say that money was the motive in Sheaffer’s murder.

Stoldt was given a life sentence for first-degree murder followed by an additional 15 years for abusing a dead body and another five for tampering with physical evidence.
