A Florida teenager apparently shot two of his brothers and then turned the gun on himself after an argument over food.

Police received a phone call on March 25 from a 16-year-old boy who was shot by his 13-year-old brother. The 16-year-old was taken to a hospital and the gunshot wound is not considered life-threatening.

The boy who fired the gun killed his 6-year-old brother and himself, the Tampa Bay Times reports.

“This is a horrific scene,” Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco told the Tampa Bay Times. “This is a nightmare when you hear about the ages of these boys, a 6-year-old that was probably playing in his room, an argument over food and he lost his life.”

The boys were reportedly having dinner alone at their mobile home. They lived there with their mother and another brother, who is 18 years old. The mother and the 18-year-old were not home at the time of the incident.

Nocco did not identify the victims and said his deputies are still investigating the matter. They are trying to figure out who owned the gun and whether the sheriff’s office had previously responded to an incident at the residence.

“We’re devastated that this would happen to such young children, and we are prepared to provide whatever services are needed at their schools,” Pasco County School District spokeswoman Linda Cobbe told the Tampa Bay Times. “I can’t even imagine.”

Josh Hicks, 13, is a neighbor of the family. He described the 13-year-old as a quiet boy who enjoyed listening to music and didn’t really come out to play with other children.

Hicks admitted that he did not know the boy well, but added “I didn’t think he would ever do something like this.”
