A woman in Lakeland, Florida, was arrested for allegedly engaging in an inappropriate relationship with an 11-year-old boy in her fifth grade class.

Alecia Dotson, a 45-year-old teacher’s aide at Highlands Grove Elementary School, was arrested following an investigation that began after the victim’s mother found disturbing text messages on his phone.

According to reports, Dotson sent the victim a text asking him if she could pick him up and take him to the library. The mother noticed the texts and subsequently found other messages, then notified the police.

While police officers were at the victim’s home, Dotson reportedly sent messages that read “Love bug what are you doing” and “I’ll be sure to tell her we won’t have sex on the first visit…LOL.”

During their investigation, authorities discovered close to 100 text messages sent between Dotson and the student.

The Special Victim’s unit posed as the student and asked Dotson to meet at a movie theater on June 30th so they could have sexual intercourse. She showed up as planned and was subsequently arrested. Authorities later said that Dotson had stopped to buy a bottle of strawberry warming lubricant before arriving at the theater.

According to Dotson, the relationship began as a “mentorship” and later evolved to a “crush,” before ultimately leading to what she described as  a”romantic relationship.”

Dotson was charged with two counts of attempted sexual battery, using a computer device to solicit a child, traveling to meet a minor and unlawful use of communications. Dotson, who is married with children, was previously arrested in 2011 on domestic battery charges. Those charges were ultimately dropped.
