Road Rage: Florida Man Allegedly Attacks Car With Kids Inside

| by Emily Smith

A Florida man attacked a family with a crowbar or pipe during an incident of road rage this month, police say.

Nadia McClean, her mother and two small children had just left a McDonald’s and were planning on shopping at a West Palm Beach plaza when a man attacked them on July 6, according to the Sun-Sentinel.

The family was sitting inside their blue Infiniti waiting for traffic to clear when they began to hear an SUV blowing its horn behind them and a man cursing at them to move, a deputy wrote in the Palm Beach sheriff's report. When traffic cleared, McClean was able to turn, but shortly returned to the same plaza so her mother could shop.

The man in the SUV then found the family and reportedly began to shatter their car's windows with a metal pipe and curse at them. Apparently, the family had not turned fast enough down the road, according to the police report.

McClean begged the man to stop because there were children in the car. McClean’s mother suffered small cuts from the shattered glass falling onto her arms. None of the other passengers were injured in the incident.

A deputy described the damage to McClean’s car as “extensive,” mainly to the hood and windshield.

The McCleans were able to get the attacker’s license plate information, which led police to arrest a suspect.

On Monday, Anthony Ritz, 54, was arrested and charged on suspicion of aggravated assault and culpable negligence. He is currently being held at Palm Beach County Jail without bail.

Ritz’s ex-girlfriend had kicked him out of their home three days prior because of his aggressive behavior, according to a deputy who spoke with her.
