A 93-year-old woman was reportedly sexually assaulted inside her apartment in Deerfield Beach, Florida, early Monday morning.
The senior, who is legally blind, was allegedly assaulted by Clyde Leandre, 22.
Luckily, the elderly woman was able to pull a cord near her bed, which sounded an emergency alarm outside her retirement-community apartment.
"In her condition, with sight issues and she is technically, legally blind, she knew where to reach for that cord when she was forced upon that bed," Broward Sheriff's Detective Ian Kuechler told the media yesterday, noted the Sun Sentinel.
Apartment residents said they tried to pull Leandre off the woman, but were unable to.
"Nothing can stop him, nothing, nothing," neighbor Sherman Cooper told WSVN (video below).
"She was laying on the bed holding on to the headboard for dear life," added neighbor Eric Mally.
After the residents called 911, four Broward County Sheriff's deputies arrived on the scene and tased Leandre, who was reportedly not wearing pants.
"They attempted to remove him from the victim," Kuechler said. "Again, he ignored their commands, at which time he was tased. It had zero affect on him."
Eventually, the deputies physically subdued the suspect, who is believed to have been on some sort of drug.
Leandre was charged with burglary with assault or battery, sexual assault with a weapon, false imprisonment and resisting an officer without violence.
