Florida Couple Accused Of Keeping Teenager As Sex Slave For Five Years

A Port St. Lucie, Florida, couple has been arrested on charges of sexual assault after allegedly keeping a teenage girl as a sex slave for five years.

The girl, who was not named, was sent to live with Rob Johnson,44, and Marie Johnson, 43, at aged 13 when her mother died, AP reported.

But not long after her arrival, the couple told her that she could only remain part of their family by having sex with them. If she refused, the couple threatened to make her a ward of the state, WPBF reported.

The girl was home schooled so that she would remain isolated from society. According to Daily Mail, Rob Johnson bought her a ring to indicate that she belonged to him.

According to an affidavit, the girl was forced to call Rob master. Marie allegedly held her against the wall by her neck until she agreed to the couple’s sexual demands.

During the five years of captivity, Rob allegedly held Sunday school classes at his family home, citing passages from the Bible to justify the treatment of the girl.

“This was a 13-year-old girl who had just lost her mother, who is looking for love and affection from someone who has no one in her life,” said Detective Sergeant Daniel Harrington from Port St. Lucie police, WpBf reported. “You use that and manipulate that and use the Bible and religion out of context to manipulate a 13-year-old girl who has no other option.”

She was finally able to escape from the home when her grandmother purchased a plane ticket for her to fly to Ohio.

“We just want to say how brave our victim is to not only begin this process but to stay with the process,” said Harrington, according to Daily Mail.

“This is one of the most heinous crimes we’ve seen sexually in a long time,” Harrington added, according to WPBF.

Rob and Marie Johnson were released later Tuesday after posting bond of $60,000 each. They have been charged on two counts of sexually assaulting a child.
