Florida Cop Caught on Video Firing Taser in Back of 61-Year-Old Woman

Tallahassee, Fla., Police Officer Terry Mahan was recorded on a cell phone video firing his Taser into the back of Viola Young, 61, yesterday.

According to PhotographyisNotaCrime, Young approached several police cars while officers were making arrests. She was told walk away by Officer Mahan, which she did, but then Officer Mahan tased her in the back (video below).

After being tased, Young was arrested and taken to the Leon County Jail on a charge of resisting an officer without violence.

Tallahassee Police Chief Michael DeLeo announced at a morning press conference today that Officer Mahan was placed on paid administrative leave while internal affairs investigated the incident.

"I know what I've seen on the video," Robert A. "Gus" Harper III, who represents Young, told the Tallahassee Democrat. "My gut reaction is sort of like everyone else's, it looks like an instrument that is used to deter violence is being used as a weapon. I think that goes against the spirit of the whole concept behind Tasers."

Tallahassee City Commissioner Gil Ziffer said he was "disturbed" by the video.

"I have great confidence in our chief of police," added Ziffer. "I think he's trying to develop policies that are right for our community. Based on what I see, he needs to determine what happened in this case."
