Ferguson Police Reveal Michael Brown's Killer Is Officer Darren Wilson (Photos)

Police in Ferguson, Missouri have released the name of the officer who shot and killed unarmed teenager Michael Brown on August 9.

Chief Tom Jackson announced this morning that Darren Wilson, a six-year veteran of the Ferguson Police Department, is responsible for the death of Michael Brown. During the press conference, Chief Jackson indicated that Brown may have been involved in a “strong-armed” convenience store robbery prior to being shot by Wilson, although it’s already been acknowledged that Brown was unarmed when he was killed.

Jackson also laid out a timeline of the events leading up to Brown’s death. According to his report, Officer Wilson received a call about a “strong-armed” robbery at a local convenience store that involved two suspects. When Wilson made his way towards the convenience store, he came in contact with Brown, who was walking with his friend, and the unarmed teen reportedly matched the description of the robbery suspect.

Wilson shot Brown, and tragically, the teen was pronounced dead at the scene. Since his death, chaos has erupted in Ferguson and surrounding areas, with mass riots and looting breaking out all over. Hacktivist group Anonymous became involved this week after promising to release the name of the officer responsible for Brown’s death, but once they released a name, it turned out that it was the wrong person. Now, it seems that pressure and involvement from Anonymous has forced the Ferguson Police Department to release Darren Wilson’s name.

Police have also released still images from surveillance cameras in the convenience store during the time that the alleged robbery took place, and it’s difficult to make out the person pictured, but he seems to be a young black male wearing clothes similar to the ones Brown was wearing when Wilson shot him dead.

This story is still developing every day, but the police department’s decision to reveal the name of the responsible officer is a major win for those seeking justice for Michael Brown.
