When the robber leaves his gun on the counter, however, Adil jumps into action.

“I picked up the gun and pointed it at the second guy, and said, ‘You run or I will shoot you,’” Adil told WTVQ.

Despite the warning, the second man approached Adil, who shot the man in the shoulder. The two men eventually left without the money following a brief fight.

Though Adil suffered a few minor injuries, she considered her actions justified, especially since she was defending her parents’ own store.

“If more people stand up, they won’t have that much courage to go around and do what they’re doing,” Adil said.

Lexington police have since issued a warrant for the arrest of Darnell Thomas in connection to the attempted armed robbery.
