Father of Ibragim Todashev, Tamerlan Tsarnaev's Friend, Believes Son Was Tortured By FBI

The father of Ibragim Todashev arrived in the U.S. yesterday after his son was shot and killed during FBI questioning this week. He is now saying that authorities tortured his son and that Todashev suffered a painful death.

Todashev was killed by an FBI special agent during questioning – reportedly when he made some sort of threatening “aggressive” movements.

"I will try to go to (the United States) and get to the truth," he previously told Reuters.

Todashev was a friend of Tamerlan Tsarnaev, one of two alleged Boston bombers, and one of several acquaintances that the FBI has investigated recently. The two met after Todashev arrived in the U.S. in 2008. Todashev said the two boys connected due to their Chechen roots.

"Chechens have a power in their unity and interest in what happens in their homeland,” Todashev’s father said. “It unites them.”

Todashev eventually moved from Boston to Orlando and had plans to return to Chechnya. Had he lived, he would have boarded his return flight to Chechnya on Thursday. He remained the U.S. at the request of the FBI, who believe that he and Tsarnaev were involved in a 2011 drug-related triple homicide in a Boston suburb.

Todashev was also arrested on May 3 and charged with aggravated battery after fighting with another man over a parking space.
