A Missouri man has been charged with statutory sodomy of a 1-year-old girl.
Jayson Newlun, 26, allegedly committed the crime while babysitting, reports KMBC.
Newlun was a family friend the parents, according to probable cause documents.
The documents indicate that he stayed at the family's home the night of June 29. The following day, the parents went to the grocery store, leaving Newlun to look after the child while she was napping.

However, after arriving at the store, the mother realized she'd left her WIC assistance folder at home, so she and her husband returned to retrieve it.
WIC, which stands for "Women, Infants, and Children," is a federal assistance program which "provides Federal grants to States for supplemental foods, health care referrals, and nutrition education for low-income pregnant, breastfeeding, and non-breastfeeding postpartum women, and to infants and children up to age five who are found to be at nutritional risk."
When the couple arrived home, the mother found Newlun in her daughter's bedroom, taking an inappropriate photo of the child before touching her genitals while masturbating himself.

The mother immediately summoned her husband, who reportedly tackled Newlun, then hit him with a dresser drawer and punched him several times.
While waiting for the police to arrive, the mother asked Newlun why he would do something like this, as she explained to the officers. He told her he didn't know. "I hope you go down for this," she reportedly told him. To which he is said to have replied: "I do, too."
The National Center for Victims of Crime says: “The prevalence of child sexual abuse is difficult to determine because it is often not reported; experts agree that the incidence is far greater than what is reported to authorities.”
A 2003 National Institute of Justice report, cited by the organization, indicates that 3 out of 4 adolescents who have been sexually assaulted were victimized by someone they knew well.
The same report says that children who are sexually abused for a prolonged period develop low self-esteem and an abnormal view of sex -- and can ultimately become suicidal.
Children who live in “homes marked by parental discord, divorce, or domestic violence, have a higher risk of being sexually abused,” the report adds.
As for Newlun, he was arrested and taken to the local detention center. A $250,000 bond has been requested in this case.
