Father Allegedly Forced Son To Drink Vodka Until He Passed Out

A Tennessee father who caught his son drinking allegedly forced the 15-year-old to drink vodka as his punishment until he passed out.

Authorities said the teen, who was not identified, had no pulse when they arrived at his Sweetwater home.

His father Mark Allen Hughes, 35, was charged with aggravated child abuse and neglect and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

A witness allegedly told police that Hughes gave the boy vodka shots and told him, "Take it. Take it. Drink up. You're going to learn.”

When relatives returned to the home and found the 15-year-old passed out they attempted to take him to the hospital but Hughes allegedly fought them off, WATE reported.

Relatives carried the boy outside before calling police.

Authorities performed CPR on the boy until an ambulance arrived. His grandmother, Lisa Hughes, told WATE that the boy was put on a ventilator for two days. She says the teen has recovered and is currently in her custody.

Sweetwater Police Chief Eddie Byrum said the case will be prosecuted to the fullest extent.

Hughes has been arrested 18 times for charges including driving under the influence, evading arrest and public intoxication, the Daily Mail reported.

He is scheduled to appear in court Sept. 23.
