Police: 14-Year-Old Fatally Shot After Facebook Feud

A Wisconsin mother is now warning parents to monitor who their kids spend time with after her son was fatally shot at a fireworks display on Friday night. Police claim that a heated debate on Facebook sparked the shooting.

“I just want to say to the other parents keep an eye on your kids,” Arifah Akbar said, according to Inquisitr. “You never know what will happen to your kid from hanging out with the wrong people.”

According to police, the argument between two teen boys began over a girl. When it was continued at a fireworks display in Milwuakee, Wisconsin, 14-year-old Tariq Akbar suffered the consequences.

“We had well over 100 police officers … but you’ve got somebody who’s got an illegal gun most likely and they’re using it to settle a score from Facebok,” Milwuakee Mayor Tom Barrett said. “It’s insanity.”

Akbar was shot around 10:30 p.m. local time, IBTimes reports. Police noted that eight or nine shots were fired and one hit Akbar in the head. Though police attempted to perform CPR and even got a pulse, Akbar later died at a local hospital.

Milwuakee police chief Ed Flynn said he’s frustrated by how easily teenagers can get their hands on guns, especially because the consequences are often violent.

Flynn added that recent violent acts that have resulted from social media disputes are no longer waves of crime, but a social phenomenon.

No one was arrested at the scene. However, police did take Akbar’s brother into custody for a probation violation. In a statement, the Milwuakee Police Department said it was moving forward with an investigation into the case.
