| by Sarah Fruchtnicht

An unidentified woman attending Denver Zoo’s annual holiday “Zoo Lights” event wandered away from the crowd and climbed into an elephant enclosure Monday night.

The intoxicated woman was later found by security after she was shocked by an electric fence.

Emergency workers sent the woman to a nearby hospital for minor injuries.

There were no elephants in the enclosure at the time of the incident.

It is unclear whether the woman broke any laws.

In May, an Idaho man was sentenced to seven years in jail for breaking into a Boise zoo and beating a monkey to death.

Michael Watkins, 22, pleaded guilty. He said he scaled the security fence and was trying to steal the Patas monkey when it bit him. He then kicked and hit the animal, which later died of his injuries.
