Alfredo Malespini III, a federal prison guard, shot his own finger while trying to remove his wedding ring on March 2.

According to The Bradford Era, police said that the wedding ring still remained on his mangled finger after the gunshot.

Malespini, from Bradford, Penn., “had been drinking quite heavily throughout the day and he and his wife had been arguing throughout the day about an affair he had had several months ago,” Bradford police Lt. Steve Caskey told the Associated Press.

Malespini told police he was “trying to get rid of his wedding ring” and decided to “shoot it off.”

Malespini went into his yard and fired a shot towards the ground. When police arrived, they found him inside the kitchen surrounded by blood.

Malespini, a lieutenant at the Federal Correctional Institution-McKean, was charged with recklessly endangering another person (his wife), disorderly conduct and firing a weapon inside city limits.
