On Sept. 11, the LAPD responded to a complaint about public lewdness, approached a woman, asked her for ID, and handcuffed her when she refused to provide it.
The woman, Daniele Watts, turned out to be an actress from “Django Unchained.”
Watts’ accusation that cops accused her of being a prostitute went viral. Watts claimed she was racially profiled by the LAPD for making out with her boyfriend, who is white.
The actress took to Facebook, where she wrote, “Today I was handcuffed and detained by 2 police officers from the Studio City Police Department after refusing to agree that I had done something wrong by showing affection, fully clothed, in a public place.”
“As I was sitting in the back of the police car, I remembered the countless times my father came home frustrated or humiliated by the cops when he had done nothing wrong,” the 28-year-old woman wrote.
TMZ reports that despite Watts’ claims, on Tuesday, both she and her boyfriend were charged with lewd conduct in public for allegedly having sex in a car outside CBS Studio Center.
NY Post reports that witness accounts and photos of the incident showed Watts straddling her boyfriend with her breasts exposed in the car. An audio exchange is reported to further undermine her account.
Furthermore, of the three cops on the scene, one was gay, one was Hispanic and one was a woman.
The crime is punishable by a maximum of six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.
