A Florida man was arrested Sunday after a physical confrontation sent both his wife and his 16-year-old daughter to the hospital, according to a Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.

David Belson, 50, allegedly attacked his family after one of his children made a remark about the hard-boiled eggs they were eating. Belson grounded three of his children over the argument and sent them to their rooms, according to the probable-cause arrest affidavit.

On the stairs, one of the children made a comment that enraged Belson. His daughter said she attempted to protect her brother. She stood between Belson and the boy’s bedroom doorway.

He then grabbed the 16-year-old and slammed her head against a door several times, according to police.

When his wife tried to intervene, he slammed her against a wall. She then took keys and left the house with the children.

Shortly after 5:30 p.m. Saturday, sheriff’s deputies responded to a call at Wellington Regional Medical Center, the hospital where the wife and teenager were being treated. The teen had a scratch about six inches long on her arm and was complaining of dizziness, the affidavit said. The mother did not have any visible injuries.

Belson was taken to Palm Beach Country Jail early Sunday. He is charged with aggravated battery and child abuse. He was later released on $3,000 bond.
