On October 25, 2015, Haney woke up from a nap and realized her daughter Alexis was nowhere to be found. With the help of a neighbor, Haney searched her home for the 3-year-old. Her body was found inside of the washing machine, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports.

Police believe Alexis climbed into the washing machine and closed the lid on herself, causing it to turn on automatically, according to an affidavit. The child's official cause of death was "scalding and thermal injuries."

During an investigation into the incident, police discovered Haney was abusing prescription medication, including the drug benzodiazepine, which can cause drowsiness, dizziness and decreased alertness.

On August 15, 2015, authorities pulled Haney over for driving in an unsafe manner. When officers determined she was not in a condition to drive after several sobriety tests, they attempted to detain her and she walked into oncoming traffic.

Her 7-month-old daughter was in the back seat. Police found prescription pills in the car, but no valid prescription.

If convicted, she faces a maximum of six years in the Arkansas Department of Correction for each charge, plus a fine of no more than $10,000.
