A 25-year-old father from New Hampshire has reportedly been charged with first- and second-degree asssault after police say he beat his 3-month-old son so badly he suffered 17 broken bones and skull fractures and had to be placed in a medically-induced coma.
Jose Orta-Santana of Newmarket, New Hampshire, allegedly punched his infant, who consequently suffered a seizure and had to be taken to a hospital in New Hampshire on Saturday. From there, the baby boy was reportedly airlifted to a hospital in Boston, where it was discovered he had broken bones from his ribs to his toes. He was placed in a medically-induced coma.
The man reportedly confessed to police that he punched his son three times because he became "frustrated" with him, reports the Daily Mail.
Police reportedly believe some of the child's injuries stem back to when he was born, reports WMUR 9.
"This is probably the most serious child abuse case that we've dealt with in a long, long time," Police Chief Kevin Cyr told WMUR 9. "I've been a police officer 30 years, and this has got to be in the top two or three that I've ever seen."
Orta-Santana reportedly waived his arraignment and didn't appear in court. He remains in custody and is being held on a $100,000 bond.
