A 38-year-old police officer in Long Island, New York, has been suspended for allegedly forcing a woman he took into custody to perform oral sex on him.

Christopher McCoy faces a criminal charge of depriving an arrestee of the right to bodily integrity, reports WPIX. If convicted of depriving the victim of her civil rights, he could be sentenced to 10 years in prison, notes the New York Daily News.

When first interrogated by the FBI in April, McCoy said he did not have any sexual contact with the woman he arrested, although when the officers told him that they had a semen sample and were prepared to take a sample of his DNA and compare the two, he changed his story and confessed to having a sexual encounter.

The alleged assault took place in March, when McCoy arrested the woman, who had a warrant out for traffic offenses. According to the woman's lawyer, Brian Egan, the officer searched her in a manner that "involved the grabbing of her chest area," notes WPIX.

While processing her at the station, McCoy reportedly took her into a private room and pulled down his pants before forcibly pushing her head down when she refused his request to perform oral sex on him.

She preserved semen that had spilled onto her shirt and reported McCoy for sexually assaulting her as soon as she was released.

"Police officers are held to a high standard, as they should be, and they certainly don't have the authority to disrespect any human being," said Williams F. Sweeney Jr., acting U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York FBI.  "This type of conduct threatens the reputation of the vast majority of law enforcement officials who serve each day with honor and integrity."

After the assault, the 10-year veteran of the police force reportedly sent the victim a number of text messages, including one that reads, "I have to return the favor."

"I put you [in] handcuffs...remember now?" McCoy reportedly wrote to her when she was unsure who was texting her, according to the New York Daily News.

McCoy and Suffolk County are being sued for $40 million for the alleged assault.

"Law enforcement officials are duty-bound to uphold the Constitution and protect all of our citizens, and certainly not to abuse them," Brooklyn U.S. Attorney Bridget Rohde said. "No dereliction of this duty will be tolerated."
