Convicted Rapist Finds God, Wants Sex Offender Classes Suspended

| by Sarah Fruchtnicht

An Alabama man, who says he has formed a good relationship with Jesus, wants his probationary sex offender classes suspended, after he was convicting of repeatedly raping an underage girl several times a week for more than a year

As part of Anthony Lawrence Ferrari’s plea agreement Judge Karen Hall ordered him to attend sex offender counseling. By pleading guilty, 15 years of Ferrari’s 20-year sentence were suspended. He only served five years in prison.

Now he wants to change the terms of that agreement.

“He took religious classes in prison. He also took classes regarding sex offender’s stuff,” said attorney John Butler. “He feels like he is cured. I guess that may not be the right term, but he feels like he is better at this point.”

Butler did not represent Ferrari, 38, at his trial, but the two now attend church together.

“It was a negotiated plea agreement. We’d like to think, if we negotiated a plea agreement, those conditions will stand,” Madison County Assistant District Attorney Gabrielle Helix told WHNT-TV.

Judge Hall agreed late Thursday and refused to waive the requirement that Ferrari seek professional counseling.

“The treatment is necessary. Our office believes the treatment is necessary to protect the children of Madison County,” Helix said.
