A Colorado schoolteacher was arrested after reportedly having a long-term sexual relationship with a 12-year-old student.

Katerina Bardos, a 24-year-old teacher at Brentwood Middle School in Greeley, Colorado, allegedly began her relationship with the boy while he was a student in her sixth grade class in 2014. The affair continued throughout the school year and into the summer.

According to reports, the two continued seeing each other even after she moved to a different school. Bardos admitted to police that over the course of their relationship, she supplied the boy with marijuana.

The student, now 13, told authorities that he had sex with Bardos more times than he was able to remember, and even engaged in sexual activity in the parking lot of the school.

“Katerina Bardos was a teacher at Brentwood Middle School from August 2013 through May 2014. Her contract was not renewed at the end of May 2014,” The Greeley-Evans School District said in a statement. “The only alleged male victim in this case is a student at Brentwood Middle School. Greeley-Evans School District 6 personnel are cooperating with the Greeley Police Department investigation of these allegations."

Bardos was arrested and charged with sex assault on a child, sex assault on a child in a position of trust and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

“She was my mentor,” Bardos’ neighbor, Allia Ashkanani, said. “I've always looked up to her. She's always been a great person involved in the community.”
