Colorado State Rep. Laura Bradford Claims Immunity From DUI
Colorado state Rep. Laura Bradford (R) was stopped by police last week in Denver, Colorado on the suspicion that she was driving under the influence.
During the police stop, Bradford admitted to drinking and failed a sobriety test. Bradford told police that she was leaving a legislative event and had to be back at the state capital in the morning.
Police claim they were unable to arrest her because of an obscure state law that says lawmakers traveling between “legislative events” have immunity from prosecution.
Instead of arrest, Bradford was given a cab ride home.
Bradford has been suspended from her committee chair position and the House Speaker is looking into other punishments. Senate Democrats are calling for the law to be amended.
