After being arrested in Daytona Beach, Florida, for the killing of a North Carolina community college worker, a 20-year-old man told a judge that he murdered the victim because he molested a relative.
Reports say that 20-year-old Kenneth Morgan Stancil III was discovered asleep on the beach in Daytona Beach, Florida, after fleeing there following the murder of 44-year-old Ron Lane, a print shop director at Wayne Community College in Goldsboro, North Carolina. Appearing in front of a judge, Stancil explained why he decided to kill Lane.
“There's a warrant that's been issued out of the state of North Carolina for you for the charge of murder,” Judge Chris Kelly said.
“I just want you to know, I ridded one less (expletive) child molester from the (expletive) earth that (expletive) with my little brother,” Stancil responded. “All right? That's all I got to say. I don’t give a (expletive) how much time they give me. Doing time is the easy (expletive) part, know what I’m saying?”
On Monday, Stancil reportedly entered the campus print shop where he used to work and fired one fatal shot into Lane, who was formerly his supervisor. After murdering Lane, Stancil reportedly got on his motorcycle and headed south. At one point along the way, the 20-year-old’s motorcycle broke down, so he hitched a ride with a woman heading to Florida.
The driver dropped Stancil in Daytona Beach, and on Tuesday morning, officers discovered the man sleeping on the beach armed with a knife. Stancil reportedly dropped the knife when an officer pulled his gun and he was arrested without incident.
“That's a scary thing, and fortunately nobody was hurt, and our officers did a great job, and they were able to apprehend the subject without any problems,” Tammy Marris of the Volusia Beach Safety Ocean Rescue said. “When he woke up, he had the knife in his hand. He was sleeping on it, but when he was ordered to put down the knife, he complied right away.”
Stancil was reportedly let go from his job at the print shop early last month.
