A law enforcement source has confirmed to Opposing Views that authorities have identified the Charleston church shooting suspect as Dylann Storm Roof.

The source said that Roof is 21 years old, and according to his Facebook page, is a graduate of White Knoll High School in Columbia, South Carolina.

A search of Roof’s name shows that he may have been arrested in Lexington County, South Carolina, back in February, although the details of his arrest are unknown.

As of 10:00 a.m. Thursday morning, Roof’s name was starting to circulate on social media. Police scanners also confirmed his identity, as did the FBI.

Around 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday night, Roof allegedly entered Emmanuel AME Church on Calhoun Street in downtown Charleston, South Carolina, and opened fire on a bible study group. Nine people were confirmed dead, and police are currently trying to apprehend the 21-year-old.

The shooting is being investigated as a hate crime, according to Charleston Police Chief Greg Mullen. The investigation and search for Roof is being conducted by multiple agencies, including the S.C. Law Enforcement Division (SLED), the Charleston County Sheriff's Office, the FBI, and the ATF.
