Caroline Stern and George Hess Arrested for Dancing on NYC Subway Platform

| by Michael Allen

Caroline Stern and George Hess say they were taken to jail after New York City police arrested them for dancing on a subway platform.

Stern and Hess were waiting for a train at the Columbus Circle station after an evening at the Lincoln Center’s 'Midsummer Night’s Swing,' last year, when they began dancing to a musician playing steel drums on the platform.

Stern told the New York Post that police broke up the two-step: "They said, 'What are you doing?' and we said, 'We’re dancing.'  And they said, 'You can’t do that on the platform.'"

The officers demanded their ID, but Stern only had a credit car, so the police ordered the couple to go with them.

When Hess pulled out a camera to start recording the incident, the police officers called for backup, tackled Hess to the floor and handcuffed him. Stern was also cuffed and arrested.
