| by Charles Roberts

An Ohio father was charged with the abuse of a corpse after his 1-year-old daughter was found dead inside an apartment on Wednesday.

According to authorities, a cable installer arrived at the Medina, Ohio, apartment around 10 a.m. and entered the home. The man then discovered the baby’s decomposed body inside a crib, WKYC News reports.

The cable installer called police immediately upon discovering the child.

“The gentleman that was here would never hook up with them,” Medina Police Chief Patrick Berarducci said (video below). “Finally he gave permission to come in today and he was gone last night, so actually the poor cable repairman was the one that discovered the child.”

The child has been identified as Ember Warfel, according to Fox 8. An autopsy is set to be performed on Ember to determine the cause of her death.

Neighbors confirmed that Eric Warfel had left the apartment the night before his daughter was found.

Warfel was arrested while he was with his 7-year-old daughter. The father of two is currently being held in the Medina County Jail and his older daughter is being cared for by her grandparents.

“It’s been very hard on the officers,” Berarducci said. “Almost every one of them on this case today has young children.”
