A brawl broke out between science fiction fans at a Star Wars Convention last weekend in Norwich, England.
According to The Times of London, Star Wars fans got into a fight with a man dressed as "Judge Dredd" and two men dressed as "Doctor Who."
Apparently, the fight was because of a long-running feud between two sci-fi fan clubs, the Norwich Sci Fi Club and the Norwich Star Wars Club, over who should be allowed to hold a sci-fi gathering and call it a "convention."
The 4th Norwich Sci-Fi and Film Convention was attended by more than 1,000 people, some dressed up as their favorite characters. There were also appearances by actors who had appeared in science fiction films, including "The Empire Strikes Back" and "Blade II."
“It has been a long running saga,” said Richard Walker, of the 4th Norwich Sci-Fi and Film Convention, who confronted the Norwich Sci Fi Club's treasurer Jim Poole on Sunday. “I saw him walking around with a digital camera videoing everything. I walked over and asked him what he was doing here and he told me he had paid his money to get in."
Walker offered Poole his money back and tried to escort him from the convention center at the University of East Anglia.
“He refused to leave again and I told him I wanted him to go as he had caused enough trouble in the past,” said Walker.
Poole claimed he was only at the event for his Doctor Who autograph collection. The brawl then broke out between the two men and their supporters.
Police were called, but made no arrests after watching video footage of the incident. “The two rival groups were spoken to and advised to keep out of each other’s way,” said a police spokesman.
