Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzokhar Tsarnaev apparently was an active twitter user. Dubai journalist Jenan Moussa confirmed that the twitter handle J_Tsar belongs to Tsarnaev today.
Many of the things on Tsarnaev’s account are what you would expect from a 19-year-old. He talks about school, girls, drinking, and movies quite a bit, all of which seem appropriate for a person of his age.
What are noteworthy are Tsarnaev’s tweets leading up to and after Monday’s bombings. On April 15th, Tsarnaev eerily tweeted “stay safe people.” The full tweet reads “Aint no love in the heart of the city, stay safe people.”
On July 17th, Tsarnaev put up a tweet that some believe is a foreshadowing of the bombings. “3rd zombie apocalypse dream in a span of like 2 weeks,” the tweet said. “I'm no golden boy but maybe, just maybe we should be expecting something soon, tbc..”
On April 8th, Tsarnaev sent out a tweet that, at least when viewed in retrospect, implies that he is about to do something significant. “If you have the knowledge and the inspiration all that's left is to take action,” the tweet reads.
Tsarnaev’s tweets since the bombings are notable as well. On April 16th, the day after the bombings, Tsarnaev tweeted “So then I says to him, I says relax bro my beard is not loaded.” Twenty minutes later, Tsarnaev posted a tweet saying “There are people that know the truth but stay silent & there are people that speak the truth but we don't hear them cuz they're the minority”
His last tweet, posted at 10:43pm on April 16th, ironically says “I’m a stress free kind of guy.”
Since his twitter account was confirmed earlier today, Tsarnaev’s account has gained thousands of followers. This morning, Tsarnaev’s twitter had 319 followers. It now has over 53,000.
Tsarnaev has not been detained yet. This morning, his brother Tamerlan Tsarnaev, also a suspect in the bombings, was killed by police. The brothers robbed a 7-11 and fatally shot a security guard earlier today.
Law enforcement officials are continuing to search for Dzokhar Tsarnaev.
