Kentucky State Police are investigating after a body was found in a toolbox floating in a Grayson County creek.

The Grayson County Sheriff's Department received a call Aug. 2 from local resident Kim Colston, who reported a toolbox floating in the Spring Fork Creek.

Before calling police, Colston called a friend who had diving experience to retrieve the toolbox. When her friend opened it, he was shocked to find the body of an adult male inside.

"He opened up the toolbox and said, call 911 and the coroner, it is a body," Colston told WBKO.

State Trooper Jeff Gregory told WLKY that the toolbox was large, describing it as "one that you would put in the back of a truck, the width of a bed of a truck."

"It's strange, but there's a lot of hoopty-doo going on in this world, so it doesn't surprise me one bit," Grayson County resident Tim Hughes told WKLY.

Police are unsure who the man was or how long he has been dead.

"Protocol is we call it a death investigation until we can get cause of death," Gregory said. "Obviously, it doesn't appear to be a suicide or accidental death, but you never know."

Local residents were shocked to hear what was found in their town, describing the area as quiet, rural, and secluded.

"It's just farm country and peaceful most of the time," Tim Hughes said.

According to police, the body has been taken to the state medical examiner's office for an autopsy.

State Police plan to release more details on the incident when the medical examiner in Louisville finishes the autopsy.
