On Feb. 5, an Army veteran was reportedly found dead from a gunshot wound at an Albuquerque, New Mexico, ATM after going out for dinner.

Police said Tyler Lackey, 24, was found dead from a gunshot wound shortly before 10 p.m. that night, the Albuquerque Journal reports. Witnesses said they saw Lackey having an altercation with another male in a parking lot near the ATM, and minutes later police arrived to find him dead.

"(The caller) heard a loud noise and then one man fell to the ground," officer Daren DeAguero told the Journal. Lackey was pronounced dead on the scene.

A gun was found next to the young man, but it has yet to be determined whether or not it belonged to him or the man who shot him.

Surveillance video was subsequently released showing the suspect in a red and white sedan along with a woman, who police say is wanted for questioning, the Daily Mail notes. The suspect was described as a Hispanic male with a clean-shaven face. He was reportedly wearing a red track suit on the night of the murder.

Lackey's aunt, Paula Frank, said she believes her nephew was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time — not involved in any suspicious behavior or activity that would have led to his death.

"He wasn't into gangs or into criminal stuff," she told the Journal. "He was just trying to move on after the Army, grow up and get on with his life."

An investigation was launched following Lackey's death, with police actively pursuing the suspect and the female companion.
