Alabama Couple Arrested For 'One Of The Worst Child Sexual Abuses Cases'

| by Amanda Andrade-Rhoades

Amber Maritta Cartwright, 24, and her boyfriend, Zachary Levi Burns, 23, were arrested on July 8 for multiple charges of sexually abusing children under the age of 12. It’s unclear what the couple’s relation to the children is — authorities decided not to disclose the information to protect the identifies of the victims.

Cartwright, a resident of Crane Hill, Alabama, is charged with first-degree sodomy and two counts of sexual abuse of a child younger than 12. She could also face charges of incest and two counts of enticing a child for immoral purposes, The Cullman Times reported.

Burns is charged with first-degree sodomy and two counts of sexual abuse of a child younger than 12. He has two counts of enticing a child for immoral purposes pending.

The couple would allegedly engage in sexual acts with each other and then force the children to participate.

This judge looked an inmate square in the eyes and did something that left the entire courtroom in tears:

“It’s safe to say this is one of the worst child sexual abuse cases I have seen in my career. These children are very brave for coming forward to help us put these predators behind bars," Cullman County Sheriff Matt Gentry said in a release. “There is no punishment severe enough for these two that fits this crime."

Cartwright and Burns are being held in the Cullman County Detention Center with no bail, The Huntsville Times reported.

No other details of the crime were released due to their graphic nature, WHNT reported.
