When a 6-year-old child was not picked up from school, South Carolina police visited the child’s home to figure out why. They found both parents dead in an apparent murder-suicide.

The Richland County Sheriff's Department said they made the discovery on Feb. 17, WIS-TV reported. They visited the boy’s home in search of his parents.

When they arrived, they found the bodies of Stephanie Wallace, 34, and her husband, Keith Wallace, 32. Both had gunshot wounds, Sheriff Leon Lott said.

Richland County Coroner Gary Watts said Stephanie died from a gunshot wound to the head, and Keith died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

“This was a domestic situation that turned deadly,” Lott told WIS-TV.

Investigators are still working to determine the exact sequence of events.
