Accused Mass Murderer James Holmes Asks in Prison: "Why Am I Here?”

James Holmes, accused of killing 12 people and wounding 58 more in Aurora, Colorado last week, reportedly asked a jail staffer "Why am I here?” according to the NY Daily News.

The jail worker, who did not give his name, told the NY Daily News: “He claims he doesn’t know why he’s in jail."

Holmes was also reportedly complaining of a stomach sickness caused by jail food in the Arapahoe County Detention Center.

The jail worker said: “He’s claiming his belly hurts him. He complained once that he didn’t like the food . . . The guy killed 12 people, and he’s upset that he’s not getting a four-star meal?”

Holmes is under 23-hour lockdown and only leaves his cell once a day. He wears a bulletproof vest during his daily walk.

The jail worker added: “He needs to save his act for the jury because no one here is buying it. Everyone is convinced he is faking it."

With their story, the NY Daily News ran the screaming headline 'EXCLUSIVE: ‘Dark Knight’ shooting suspect James Holmes claims amnesia.'

However, Holmes has not claimed "amnesia" and some people, such as HLN's Dr. Drew Pinsky, speculate that Holmes may be medicated as he is under suicide watch and was initially spitting at prison guards when he was booked.
